Google の Chief Scientist。 1999 年に Google 入社、 MapReduce、 Bigtable、 Spanner、 TensorFlow、 BERT、 PaLM など Google の中核技術のほぼすべてに筆頭著者・共同設計者として関与してきた伝説のエンジニア。

2011 年に Google Brain を Andrew Ng らと立ち上げ、 ディープラーニング研究の中心地に育てた。 2018 年から Google AI 全体 (Brain + 周辺研究) のトップに。 2023 年 4 月、 Google が Brain と DeepMind を統合して Google DeepMind を発足させた際、 Dean は Chief Scientist として全社の AI 研究ロードマップを Demis Hassabis と並んで率いる立場に。

Gemini 系モデル開発の中心、 TPU エコシステムの内部推進者。 ACM Prize in Computing 受賞。 ミネソタ大学 → ワシントン大学博士 (CS)。
