Terms of Service

These Terms of Service apply to everyone who uses MEMEX (memeeeeeex.com). They are currently published as a provisional v0.1 version, to be updated to a final version after consultation with the funding partner.

Note on this provisional version: This text reflects current operating practice (a static site, individually operated, distributed free of charge). If functionality or operations change, the description will be updated, and the change will be noted in the revision history at the bottom of this page.

1. Scope

These Terms apply to every page, file, and API endpoint under memeeeeeex.com and its subdomains. Embeds of, and links to, third-party services (YouTube, X, Wikipedia, and others) are governed by each provider's own terms.

2. Content license

MEMEX's original editorial content — article text, translations, structured people profiles, and topic classifications — may be used under the following conditions.

  • Personal use, academic use, and media citation are permitted
  • When citing, credit the canonical URL (the <link rel="canonical"> on each page) as the source
  • AI crawler, RAG, and training use are also permitted (see /llms.txt)
  • For commercial use or large-scale redistribution, we recommend checking with us in advance via the contact page

The following content, however, is not MEMEX's original editorial work and requires permission from its own rights holder.

  • Embedded YouTube videos (belong to the video's rights holder)
  • Original quoted text (belongs to the speaker or author)
  • People's photos (from sources such as Wikimedia Commons, under each image's own CC license — attribution is listed on the person's profile page)
  • Company logos (each company's trademark, used only within fair-use limits for identification purposes)

3. Conditions for citation

When citing a MEMEX article, please observe the following.

  • State the article's URL explicitly (the canonical URL, not a shortened link)
  • Do not conflate MEMEX's editorial commentary with the primary source itself (keep MEMEX's editorial voice clearly distinct from the speaker's own words)
  • When quoting a translated passage, note that it is MEMEX's translation
  • Do not quote out of context in a way that distorts the article's meaning

4. Prohibited uses

The following uses are explicitly prohibited.

  • Deliberately overloading the site (DoS / DDoS, or scraping that evades rate limits)
  • Attempting to bypass security mechanisms (WAF bypass, authentication bypass)
  • Altering MEMEX's content and presenting it to third parties in a way that misrepresents the original speaker's intent
  • Using articles out of context for personal attacks or defamation

5. Disclaimer

MEMEX takes reasonable care over the accuracy, completeness, and currency of its articles, but does not warrant the following.

  • Absolute error-freedom of article content (if you find an error, please let us know via the contact page)
  • Continuous availability of the site (it runs on Cloudflare Pages and is generally highly available, but we offer no compensation for outages)
  • Persistence of embedded third-party content (for example, the removal of a YouTube video is outside our control)
  • Any outcome of actions or decisions based on article content (investment decisions, career decisions, technology choices, and the like)

Articles are positioned as a source of information for readers to verify and judge independently. We recommend checking primary sources directly.

6. Revisions to these Terms

These Terms may be revised without notice. Revisions are recorded in the revision history at the bottom of this page. Continued use of the site after a revision constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

7. Governing law / dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute arising in connection with these Terms shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court as the court of first instance.
